Many times I find myself wondering if my father would have become a great designer if he had the opportunity to attend an artistic school when he was young.
Unfortunately, his family was poor, so he had to work immediately after finishing school. Every piece has his own funny name.
Daddy always wanted to name his pieces in his ironical way by using Venetian dialect or sometimes English (even if he’s not able to speak the language) !
Chiara ( Terenzio’s daughter )
Terenzio Sonda has decades of experience in ceramic craftsmanship. He started his apprentice in a porcelain firm in the famous ceramic district of Bassano del Grappa in the northeast of Italy. Thanks to this experience he learned the basics of his future job.
The company Il Gattopardo ceramics, founded with his brother, gave him the opportunity to work for artist such as Maloberti, Nero, Matteo Cibic,... and luxury italian fashion Brands. He produced for his clients a big range of ceramic animals, some of them are still available to purchase.
He uses his art to convey important messages in a funny way, not without underlining contradictions of the world.
Tere - crue means litterally ( in Venetian dialect): raw lands, but also clay that is not cooked.
The Venetian dialect, is a raw, strict, rigid, concrete, and short language just like Terenzio.
However, his art is funny, emotionally ditched and even childlike. Children are in fact the first to understand the art behind his animals, they are able to recognize which animals are assembled together in every piece, without any caption.
